BIMP-EAGA donates P750,000 worth of equipment to CDO-CIQS agencies

    Cagayan de Oro City (11 February) -- The Mindanao Economic Development Council (MEDCO) has turned-over some P750,000 worth of equipment to the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Security (CIQS) agencies of Cagayan de Oro.
    These equipment include the CCTV cameras for use at the CDO seaport given to the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) and radar communication support for the Mindanao Terminal Container Port (MTCP) in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental and one (1) unit of digital audio recorder and one (1) set of laptop computer to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), region 10. ASEAN S&T Exhibition set in July

    Cagayan de Oro City (2 April) -- This year's ASEAN S&T Exhibition will be held on July 7-11, 2008 at World Trade Center, Manila during the ASEAN Science and Technology Week to showcase the technologies available in ASEAN and Dialogue Partners.
    The ASEAN member-countries include Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao-PDR, Myanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Meanwhile, the ASEAN dialogue partners are Australia, Canada, EU, India, Japan, New Zealand, Pakistan, Republic of Korea, Russia, UN Development Program, and US. (+)

Commentary: ASEAN Summit gains translate to more investments, jobs for Filipinos

    Cagayan de Oro City (23 January) -- The Government will translate the momentum of the ASEAN and East Asian Summits into domestic gains as the Filipino leverage to international confidence to project the year 2007 as the boom year for the country.
    "This, as the lingering aura of confidence and optimism from the summits will be translated to social payback that anchors both on the regional agenda, as well as, of the Medium Term Philippine Development Plan (MTPDP)," Regional Director Myra V. Balandra of the National Economic and Development Authority, said. (+)

Feature: Summit success opens opportunities for Filipino excellence

    Cagayan de Oro City (17 January) -- The success of the recently concluded ASEAN and East Asia summits has opened the horizon to great challenges and opportunities in fielding Filipino excellence through a broader regional market of services.
    "As a Filipino, myself, I am with Pres. Arroyo in calling on our people to be focused on the ball and not be distracted by the empty wind of partisan politics. Instead, let us all be united to savor this momentous triumph, as we gear towards the realization and implementation of all the accords reached," Regional Director Teodoro D. Buenavista, Jr. of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), Region 10, said. (+)

12th ASEAN Summit highlights Filipino leadership potentials

    Cagayan de Oro City (17 January) -- The diplomatic assets and leadership potential of the Philippines as host of the recently concluded 12th ASEAN Summit in Mandaue City, Cebu has led to the signing of 12 landmark agreements.
    These included pacts on counter-terrorism, protection of migrant workers, free trade, a pro-democracy charter and those on telecommunications, transportation and tourism which should anchor the country's sustained positives. (+)
