2 major Davao ICT projects eyed to boost industry

    Davao City (12 July) -- Davao Region's Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Industry Cluster has lined up two major activities that are geared toward its development.
    ICT Davao Inc. president Eriberto E. Barriga Jr. said that being on top in the list of Next Wave Cities for 2010, Davao City has a lot to offer in terms of ICT products and IT services. (+)

Mindanaoan IT engineer develops Google's precinct finder

    Davao City (5 May) -- Seeing Filipino's enthusiasm in using Google Map maker and realizing that automated elections will change many designated polling stations because of precinct clustering, Filipino Google engineer Dan Cedric Delima decided to build a tool that will help voters get to their assigned polling stations on Election Day this May 10.
    Named as the Google Precinct Finder, the online tool uses community knowledge to make voter center information accessible to many Filipino voters. (+)

4 Davao Sur LGUs get free software for permits and licensing system
    Davao Del Sur (9 December) -- Four local government units (LGUs) from the province became recipients of free software package using an open source-based business permit and licensing system through the eGovernance for Municipal Development (eGov4MD) project.
    The package includes various forms of technical assistance, particularly in crafting Information System Strategic Plan and in making electronic business permit and licensing system operational. These components were provided to the municipalities of Sta. Cruz, Bansalan, Hagonoy, and Padada. (+)

Davao holds ICT Summit and Convergence 2009
    Davao City (24 November) -- "ICT (information technology and communication) is a growing industry and has great potential for development here in Mindanao," this was bared by Secretary Ray Anthony Roxas-Chua III, CICT Chairman, during the Mindanao ICT Summit 2009 and Convergence 2009 held at the Davao Convention Center.
    Compostela Valley joined the 2-day training sponsored by the Commission of Information and Communications Technology and various ICT groups which has "RoadMap 2015, Empowering Davao through Information and Communications Technology" as theme. (+)

SaaS camp hopes to tap high value IT sector in Davao

    Davao City (7 November) -- The coming SaaS (Software as a service) entrepreneur camp aims to tap high value IT sector in Davao whose numbers are not yet fully identified nor defined in the city.
    The Saas Entrepreneur camp is a business idea competition where the winning technopreneurial team will get the chance to be funded and mentored by an angel investor from Silicon Valley. Mark Maglana says the event can attract software developers in the city to come out in the open and join the camp. (+)
