DSWD reports social protection programs assistance to Ifugaoby Dan B. Codamon
LAGAWE, Ifugao, Jan. 3(PIA)--The Department of Social Welfare and Development of the Cordillera Administrative Region (DSWD-CAR) recently reported the status of social protection programs assistance to this province for the year 2011.
According to Minda Romero, Social Welfare Officer 2 and Team Leader of Ifugao for this program, social protection programs involve Cash-for-Work or Food-for-Work ( CFW or FFW) and Core Shelter Assistance Programs that assisted families displaced by calamities such as typhoons for their speedy recovery and rehabilitation through these programs.
The beneficiaries of the CFW or FFW program received cash based on the prevailing regional wages or food in exchange for doing community projects such as repair and reconstruction of damaged houses and community facilities, clean-up and garbage collection among others.
Under this project, 7,065 families from the 11 municipalities of this province received payment worth a total of P19,739,610.00 all released after Ifugao was greatly devastated by three consecutive typhoons Mina, Pedring and Quiel.
For the Core Shelter Assistance Program, 47 core shelter units were planned at P70,000.00 per unit with a total of P32, 290,000.00 for six municipalities where some households suffered complete destruction of their homes during the typhoons.
Out of these 47 core shelter units, 43 were already completed while four are still under construction with Kiangan having 16 units costing P1,120,000.00, Lamut with 15 worth P1,050,000.00, Tinoc with 8 amounting to P560,000.00, Hungduan with 4 worth P280,000.00, Lagawe with 3 at P210,000.00 and Hingyon with one costing P70,000.00.
