by Lito Dar

BAGUIO CITY, Jan. 7 (PIA) -- The National Statistics Office is set to start this Monday, January 9, the enumeration for the Labor Force Survey.

The Labor Force Survey is a nationwide survey of households conducted regularly to gather data on the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population.

NSO- Cordillera Regional Director Olivia Gulla is calling on the public support for the smooth and successful conduct of the said survey.

According to Gulla, the said Labor Force Survey, which is being held every first month of the quarter in selected areas nationwide, is primarily geared towards the estimation of the levels of employment and unemployment in the country.

“The survey aims to provide a quantitative framework for the preparation of plans and formulation of policies affecting the labor market. Specifically, the survey is designed to provide statistics on levels and trends of employment, unemployment and underemployment for the country, as a whole, and in every region,” Gulla said.

The enumeration in Cordillera will be conducted Monday to Saturday, from January 9 up to 30, except on January 23, which was officially declared as a special non-working holiday for the celebration of tthe 2012 Spring Festival or Chinese New Year.

A total of 1,975 sample households all over Cordillera will be visited by NSO-CAR enumerators for the said Labor Force Survey. For Abra, there will be 287 sample households to be visited; Benguet – 916; Ifugao – 218; Kalinga- 223; Mt. Province – 209, and Apayao- 122.

“Such quantitative framework that the survey will provide would help on the creation/preparation of gainful employment and livelihood opportunities; reduction of unemployment and promotion of employment; improvement of working conditions; and the enhancement of the welfare of our workers,” Gulla added.

She reiterated her call for public support on the conduct of the said survey.

“Our enumerators will be wearing ID cards and will coordinate the survey with the barangay officials in every survey areas. If the public has doubt, they can also call or verify their concerns in any NSO provincial offices,” Gulla stressed. (JDP/LD-PIA CAR)
