Spring Festival to kick off on Jan. 9

BAGUIO CITY,Jan. 8 -- The celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year or Spring Festival, which ushers in the Year of the Dragon, will kick-off on January 9 in this mountain city.

The event will be highlighted with the entry of the colourful dragons coming alive in a traditional Chinese dance performed by the Baguio Bell Church.

The Chinese Dragon is a divine mythical creature that symbolizes abundance, prosperity and good luck.

The Spring Festival Executive Committee will also host a ‘Media Forum’ on January 17 at Hotel Supreme’s Margarita Hall at 6 pm.

On January 18, the yearly ‘Gift-Sharing’ of the Filipino-Chinese community chaired by Ms. Lilian Baniwas will be held in Asin Road starting at 2 pm.

For those who are into ‘Traditional Chinese Medicine,’ a symposium will be conducted on January 19, Thursday, at the Baguio City Multi-purpose Hall starting 1 pm.

The main event of the Chinese Spring Festival celebrations in the city will be on January 21 for the “Grand Colorful Parade” of the Dragons which will start at Upper Session Road at 1:30 pm.

On January 23, the Baguio Bell Church will host a ‘New Year celebration’ at the Bell Church grounds.

The Baguio Filipino-Chinese community organizations and associations include the Association for Philippine-China Understanding, Baguio Chapter, Baguio-Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Baguio Filipino Cantonese Association-CAR, Tiok Lim Grand Mason-Baguio Chapter, Baguio Filipino-Chinese General Hospital, Baguio Patriotic High School, Bell Church-Baguio and SM City Baguio.
