RDO 11 collects more than P266- M in 2011

by Larry Lopez

TABUK, Kalinga, Jan. 11(PIA)-- Revenue District Office (RDO) 11, covering the provinces of Kalinga and Apayao, reported a total tax collection of P266,021,379.28 in 2011, a laudable performance despite the absence of assigned revenue district officer.

Based on the summary report of collections of the revenue office, topping the sources of taxes for the year are taxes on income and profit that accounted for P163,641,805.

Income taxes are collected from individual taxpayers and corporate sources and in the district, P160,609,694 were collected from individual tax payers while P2,543,360 came from corporate sources.

Posting as second major source of taxes in the district is Value Added Tax (VAT) which registered P92,480,881 coming from manufacturing, construction, wholesale and retail trade, storage and warehousing, business services, community and personal services, withholding tax, property and fines and penalties.

According to RDO officer- in-charge Dominga Bangao, VAT collection of the district was comparatively higher in the previous two years when construction of the Tabuk-Bontoc road was at its peak.

Coming as third major source of taxes of the district is percentage tax on services with P7,249,127 contributed by banks and non-banks, exemptions from VAT, carriers and keepers of garages, withholding tax on business and fines and penalties.

Other collections in the district were sourced from taxes on property transfer, excise tax on goods and other taxes.

She attributed their 2011 laudable performance to the wide education and information drives of collection agents in the 15 municipalities of the district office, despite the present condition of the roads.

Bangao admitted the district office has to exert more aggressive tax campaign in 2012 to meet the high collection goal set by head office.

She reiterated the call of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) to pay taxes on time to avoid penalties and reminded income tax payers to file their income tax returns before the deadline this year. (LL-PIA CAR,Kalinga)
