Kalinga enrolls BHWs, day care center workers to Philhealth

by Larry Lopez

TABUK, Kalinga,Jan. 11(PIA) -- The provincial government opened free PhilHealth enrolment to accredited barangay health workers and day care center workers here who are not yet covered under the government health program.

Espirita Gamatero, Assistant Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer said target beneficiaries are low-income workers who have no permanent source of living. She said this is part of the provincial government’s program of providing support to volunteer workers in government in recognition of their efforts.

Qualified beneficiaries are duly registered barangay health workers and day care center workers with recommendation from their barangay officials for enrolment. She urged local government units to validate their master lists of BHWs and daycare center workers for smooth flow of the activity.

Gamatero explained the qualification is necessary to avoid fictitious beneficiaries who may just take advantage of the offer.

PhilHealth card holders are entitled to government subsidies for medicines, medical services and other hospitalization expenses.

Gamatero said this is in line with President Benigno Aquino III’s vow to provide free PhilHealth coverage to indigent Filipinos under his health program for the masses.

BHWs are volunteer workers rendering services on government’s health programs in the barangays, while day care center workers take the multi-functions in pre-school education at various day care centers. (JDP/LL-PIA CAR,Kalinga)
