Baguio Anti Child Abuse Network holds planning workshop

BAGUIO CITY, Jan. 13(PIA)-- The Anti-Child Abuse Network (ACAN) conducted its year-end evaluation for its performance in 2011 and planning workshop for 2012 at the Child and Family Service Philippines (CFSPI) office last January 11.

PSSupt. Pedro A. Austria, Jr. Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Regional Chief and ACAN Chairman thanked the partner-agencies for their active participation in ACAN activities. He said that because of the team effort of the ACAN partner – agencies, last year’s activities of the network have been successfully carried out.

The workshop highlighted the network’s direction for the next 12 months. They crafted its’ plan for 2012 after an extensive SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) analysis.

Members of the network once again agreed to continue its mission to provide timely, effective and efficient services that are responsive to the needs of victims of child abuse, manage cases with the least trauma and stop abuse by promoting community awareness and community programs against child abuse.

Created by the Child and Family Service Philippines, Inc.. (CFSPI) in 1996, the ACAN formerly known as the Child Abuse Unit is composed of local government units, National Government Agencies (NGAs) and Non-Government Organizations (NGOs). It has two existing committees, the case management committee and the advocacy committee.

Members of the network include the city government of Baguio, Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Social Service, Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center-Women and Children Protection unit, Commission on Human Rights, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, Department of Education-Baguio Division Office, Department of Interior and Local Government , Department of Justice-City Prosecutor’s office, Department of Social Welfare and Development, National Bureau of Investigation, Philippine Information Agency, Philippine National Police-Women and Children Protection Desk, PNP Crime Laboratory and , and the Philippine Mental Health Association (PMHA),

Other NGO partners include the Save our School Children Foundation, Inc. and the Safe Harbor International Philippines (SHIP) Foundation, Inc., as the newest member. (JDP/MC-PIA CAR)
