Kalinga PWDs see more livelihood opportunities

by Larry Lopez

TABUK, Kalinga, Jan. 13(PIA)-- People with disability (PWD) expect more livelihood opportunities this year with the fresh financial assistance provided by the provincial government.

In support to this marginalized sector, the province released P100,000, early this month to 20 PWD recipients for them to start income generating projects for their families.

Bing Haddac of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) said 10 of the beneficiaries who were granted P5,000 each, would venture into electronic servicing business.

Four will open mini-canteens, three recipients are interested in operating beauty parlors while three others will engage in sari-sari store business. They will be starting with initial investment of P5,000 from the program, Haddac said.

Aside from providing financial help, the provincial government intends to offer stalls at the newly constructed provincial capitol gymnasium to members of the sector who received livelihood aids.

Haddac said as assurance that recipients would strive to manage the money they obtained from the program, they are asked to pay back the amount borrowed but with zero interest.

Collected payments, she said, would be used to finance other livelihood projects of future beneficiaries of the program.*(JDP/LL- PIA CAR,Kalinga)
