City pursues OTOP identification

by Aileen Refuerzo

BAGUIO CITY, Jan. 15 (PIA) -- The city will pursue the identification of its One Town, One Product (OTOP).

Mayor Mauricio Domogan last week created a technical working group to spearhead the determination of the OTOP to be chaired by city budget officer Leticia Clemente.

The OTOP program also known as the “Isang Bayan, Isang Produkto, Isang Milyong Piso” was institutionalized via Executive Order No. 176 dated Feb. 11, 2003 aimed at stimulating “domestic economic activities in the countryside through the provision of P1 million loan assistance to each of the 1,610 cities and municipalities in the country to promote their products.

“Since 2003, the City of Baguio has not yet identified its OTOP which has greatly impacted on the actual product that it markets to its thousands of visitors that visit the Summer Capital annually,” the mayor noted in his Administrative Order No. 5 series of 2012.

“There is an urgent need to immediately identify the OTOP of the City of Baguio so that it will be able to come out with a distinct identity in terms of products with other places in the Cordillera,” he added.

The technical working group will be composed of the chairman of the council committee on employment and livelihood, the Dept. of Trade and Industry provincial director, city planning and development coordinator, Dept. of Tourism regional director, and presidents of the Baguio Market Vendors Association and Baguio-Benguet Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. The group was given a month to achieve its task. (PIA CAR/AR-Baguio City PIO)
