More Philhealth insurance benefits up for implementation

by Lito Dar

BAGUIO CITY, Jan. 16 (PIA) - - More health care insurance benefits are being prepared by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Philhealth) for its members this 2012.

This is in line with President Benigno Aquino III’s Health Agenda of Universal Health Care, which primarily aims to provide access to quality health care services to all Filipino families especially the poor.

Philhealth-Cordillera Public Information Officer Maggie Del Rosario, in a radio interview disclosed that the Philhealth is currently working for the inclusion of out-patient or regular maintenance medicines especially for common ailments such as diabetes, hypertension and antibiotics to their health insurance coverage.

Philhealth is also working for the inclusion of out-patient preventive and diagnostic services to their health insurance coverage, as well as on developing more case rates to eventually cover all illnesses.

Last September 2011, Philhealth already started the implementation of the case rate system, which initially involves 11 common medical and 12 surgical cases with corresponding amount of insurance coverage in each of the listed medical and surgical case that each member, and their beneficiaries may encounter.

In addition, Philhealth also implemented the ‘No Balance Billing’ for the government sponsored poor Filipino families listed in the National Household Targeting System (NHTS-PR).

Through the said program, all Philhealth members as well as their qualified members need not to worry anymore of any balance or additional expenses (outside of the usual Philhealth coverage), once confined or hospitalized in a government run hospital or health facility.

Meantime, Del Rosario also affirmed that to make all these enhancement plans reality, Philhealth will also be increasing the premium contributions this 2012 starting with the Individually Paying members and the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

According to Del Rosario, from the P300 quarterly membership contributions of individually paying members, their quarterly contribution will be increased to P600 starting July 1, 2012. For OFWs, from the P900 a year contribution, it will also be increased to P2,400.

Del Rosario also announced a special offer or a promotional gift to their members. Individually paying and OFW members who pay their whole year contributions for this year and also for next year (2013) before July 1,2012 can still pay the old rate . (JDP/LD-PIA CAR)
