Tabuk issues stricter req'ments on renewal of videoke bar permits

by Larry Lopez

TABUK CITY, Kalinga,Jan. 17(PIA)-- City Mayor Ferdinand B. Tubban is not likely to grant operators of videoke bars and night pubs here renewal of their business permits unless they comply with the stringent requirements.

Applicant-operators are required to seek barangay clearance from the place of business as assurance that officials and residents of the place are allowing that kind of business in their locality.

This requirement resulted from earlier petitions of residents about the problems attached to the videoke bar business on the youth and families.

Added to the requirements in the issuance of business permits are PhilHealth coverage, Social Security Service, Pag-ibig and health certificate of video bar workers. These are over the regular Bureau of Internal Revenue registration and community tax certificate of employees.

To mitigate its noise to residents, videoke bars are also obliged to be provided enough sound poof facilities that would duly pass the building standard.

Operators are also mandated to employ security personnel or licensed “bouncers” who could prevent troubles inside the establishment.

Two barangays of Poblacion Centro and Magsaysay at the heart of the City have earlier shut the bids of operators, saying they are not issuing any barangay clearance to applicants who may engage in videoke bar business in their areas.

Last year, Tubban ordered the closure of video bars in the city following mounting complaints from concerned residents of the moral effects of the business to minors, since operators included the “flesh trade” in their businesses.

Most problems about peace and order in the vicinity were also committed inside videoke bars that even resulted to loss of lives.

The city government is also firm in not allowing any form of prostitution as part of the business, the main reason why there was strict regulation on this type of business in the city.( LL-PIA CAR,Kalinga)
