Kalinga Provincial Hospital upgrades facilities, services

by Larry Lopez

TABUK, Kalinga,Jan. 18(PIA) -- As the prime government health in the province, facilities and services of the Kalinga Provincial Hospital are being upgraded in response to increasing demand in health needs.

The upgrading of the hospital is part of the provincial government’s program to provide quality health services to the people, where an initial P5 million fund was proposed to start the project.

Governor Jocel B. Baac included the project in his social sector program priorities last year and solicited the assistance of the Department of Health (DOH).

For the project, the DOH Cordillera region, released P33 million to finance the construction of a pay-wing at the hospital that would house private and suite rooms and private wards.

According to Provincial Health Officer Dr. Romulo Gaerlan, work on the project would start immediately as soon as the bidding at DOH-CAR office is done.

Classified as a secondary hospital and the largest in the province, Kalinga Provincial Hospital operates with a 100-bed capacity and has four departments; Surgery, Pediatrics, OB-Gyne and Medicine, with basic services on radiology, X-ray, anesthesia and laboratory. At present, the hospital maintains few air-conditioned private rooms at P600/day.

Gaerlan said the expansion project would provide 50 additional beds to the hospital for paying patients, upgrading its services with private hospitals in the province.(JDP/LL-PIA CAR,Kalinga)
