Ifugao PLGU grants development assistance to sitios

LAGAWE, Ifugao Jan. 19 (PIA) -- Governor Eugene Balitang has approved an ordinance granting development assistance fund to qualified sitios of the province to accelerate more development in the grassroots level.

Known as 'Sitios Development Assistance Fund (SDAF),' it aims to provide a proper, objective and viable means in addressing the clamor of Barangay Local Government Units (BLGUs) to address the needs of their respective barangays.

The ordinance stated that a qualified sitio will receive P150,000 as development assistance fund, which would be included in the annual budget of the province and to be treated as statutory obligation. It will be exclusively used for the opening and development of roads toward or within the sitio, as well as for other basic and development needs and not for personnel services expenses.

The SDAF will be stopped when the sitio become a regular barangay and after a period of 10 years but subject to any possible extension through an ordinance on the condition that the sitio concerned still satisfies the criteria.

To avail of the development assistance fund, the sitio must have a population of at least 300 as certified by the National Statistics Provincial Office. It is not accessible by land transport and but has an elementary school and a polling precinct .(JDP/MBL - PIA CAR,Ifugao)
