75 families in Lubuagan get livelihood assistance

by Larry Lopez

LUBUAGAN, Kalinga, Jan. 24 (PIA) -- As part of government’s continued effort to mitigate poverty, 75 families of this fifth class municipality received a total of P557,000 as financial aid from the poverty-reduction convergence strategy of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Lubuagan is the fourth recipient-municipality of this form of assistance under the Set 1 group of target beneficiaries which include the municipalities of Pasil, Tanudan and Tinglayan.

According to Nixon Mendoza, staff of DSWD Cordillera regional field office, the money has been downloaded by DSWD to Tabuk Multi-purpose Cooperative (TAMPCO) as conduit in the project, ready for withdrawal by proponent groups.

Lubuagan has seven barangays served under Set 1, namely Antonio Canao, Poblacion, Mabilong, Dangoy, Lower Uma, Upper Uma and West Uma.

Under the 4Ps guidelines, cash aids are released to organized groups, not directly to individual borrowers, to encourage recipient communities organize themselves.

In Lubuagan, the proponent groups and their respective borrowed amounts are Hope Self Employment Assistance -Kaunlaran(SEA-K) Group – P34,000; Bilalikted SEA-K Association – P153,000; Successful SEA-K Association – P146,000; Fortune SEA-K Group – P80,000 and Jeff Nick’s SEA-K Association P144,000.

Individual borrowers could borrow a maximum loan of P10,000 to finance micro-enterprises as source of additional income for the family, based on project proposals submitted. The non-collateralized loan is payable in two years at zero interest and to be rolled-on to other borrowers under the same program.

The DSWD is currently implementing the Tatsulo poverty reduction convergence strategy of its Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino program or the Conditional Cash Transfer, KALAHI-CIDSS and SEA-K sustainable livelihood in the poorest areas in the country, to maximize impact to the benificiaries.(JDP/LL-PIA CAR,Kalinga)
