Search for healthy barangay in Kalinga on

by Peter A. Balocnit

TABUK CITY, Kalinga,Jan. 26 (PIA) -- The committee for the search for healthy barangays has finished its evaluation of the entries last week and will come out with the result soon.

According to Ignacio Dinulong, representative of the Office on Agricultural Services, the search committee completed its rounds of the participating barangays namely Talalang of Balbalan, Balinciagao of Pasil, and Taga in Pinukpuk.

He said the search team evaluated the health and sanitation status of the barangay whether it has a level 3 water system where households are connected to potable water; households have toilets; and if the barangay has proper waste disposal.

Also looked into is the absence of astray animals; sustained backyard gardening; beautification projects; eligible children being vaccinated; and if these activities were institutionalized with records like ordinances.

During their exit conference, the group considered to make the evaluation a regular activity of the provincial local government unit to ensure that health, environment and sanitation is sustained in the grassroot level.

He said the group recommended for a quarterly conduct of evaluation. “This activity should not only be done for search sake but rather an embedded program and long term activity of each barangay,” Dinulong said.

“The thing is, some barangays only conduct health and sanitation projects during the search and discontinue them after,” Dinulong pointed out adding that the community must live with it, afterall, a healthy barangay contributes to the wellness of its inhabitants.

The other members are the Office on Health Services as lead agency and the Department of Education. (JDP/PAB-PIA CAR,Kalinga)
