PIA Press Release Tuesday, December 20, 2011Govt. to hire 200 more PDEA agents by 2012by Jerome Carlo R. Paunan QUEZON CITY, Dec. 20 (PIA) -- To intensify its campaign against illegal drugs, the administration of President Benigno S. Aquino III will be hiring an additional 200 drug enforcement officers by February 2012, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) chief said Tuesday. During the program Talking Points held at the Philippine Information Agency, PDEA director general Jose Gutierrez Jr. said their agency is in the process of hiring around 200 drug agents who could help in their anti-illegal drug enforcement. Gutierrez said the candidates, who earlier qualified in a "grueling" recruitment process, are still undergoing special training at their facility until February of next year to ensure they will be equipped with the proper drug enforcement skills and know-how. He said the cadets hold either a Second Level Civil Service Professional eligibility or a Professional Regulation Commission license. However, the PDEA chief noted that their one-year training only covers the basics of drug enforcement as this would be supplemented with advanced specialized education later during their next four years in service. Meanwhile, a post on PDEA's website said successful recruits will have an entry Salary Grade 11 or P 14,198 and plantilla position of Intelligence Officer 1 in the government service.
