SSS pensioners to receive 13th month pay bonuses

by Venus H. Sarmiento

DAGUPAN CITY, Dec. 15 (PIA) -- Pensioners of the Social Security System (SSS) will receive double their pensions this month as their 13th month pay will be deposited in their accounts.

Engr. Primitivo Verania, section head of the Field Inspectorate Division- Dagupan branch, said the SSS has released to its conduit banks nearly P10 billion for December pension and 13th month bonuses for its 1.6 million pensioners nationwide.

“Doble ang makukuha ng mga pensionsers classified as retirement, dependent and disability pensioners (Our pensioners, classified as retirement, dependent and disability, will receive double),” Verania said during the Pantongtongan Tayo radio program of the Philippine Information Agency aired over Radyo ng Bayan.

Verania said there are a lot of other benefits that SSS offers for its members. Short term benefits cover sickness and maternity while long term benefits cover disability, retirement and death including funeral.

He added that funds for these benefits come from member’s contributions. However, contributions alone will not suffice thus the need for another source like investments.

“May certain percentage lang na dapat i-invest sa SSS para kumita ang pera at magamit para sa operational expenses at pagbibigay ng benefits,’’ he explained.

Verania assured that SSS assets are well- funded and member’s money are safe. (ANL/VHS-PIA 1 Pangasinan)
