PIA Press Release Sunday, November 28, 2010Dagupan fiesta activities bared Dagupan City (25 November) – A wide array of activities will mark the city fiesta here slated December 1 to 30. City Councilor Jesus “Jess” Canto who is this year’s hermano mayor, said the fiesta activities will include grand civic motorcade and grand ceremonial lighting on December 15, musical extravaganza on the 16th to be presented by the Foundation for Lay Education on Heart Diseases, Inc., senior citizens night on the 18th, family fun run on the 19th, national rapid chess tournament on the 18th and 19th, Angono symphony on the 19th, and fireworks display on the 23rd. The highlight of the month-long festivity will be the Miss Dagupan coronation night and “Pawil Dagupan” on the 26th at the city public plaza, Canto said. He said he expected many Dagupenos now residing abroad to mingle with their citymates on that grand night. Vice-President Jejomar Binay, he said, was invited as the crowning guest. Other invited dignitaries include Senator Miguel Zubiri and Sarangani Congressman and boxing champion Manny Pacquiao, who recently annexed his eighth world title in different divisions. “Tentative pa lang ang mga ito pero we expect them to come,” Canto said during the KBP Forum Thursday at the Philippine Information Agency. The two main bridges at the downtown area – Quintos and Magsaysay – will be decorated along with the trees at the public plaza, he said. “”Ala London bridge yong dekorasyon ng dalawang tulay natin,” he said, adding that he was looking for a sponsor to also decorate the Pantal bridge at the De Venecia Expressway extension. Lighting for the Quintos bridge may cost P150,000, he bared. Prizes for the Cleanest Barangay search will come from the proceeds of the fun run. Registration for the three-kilometer run is P50; P100 for the five-km run, and P150 for the 10-km run, he said. Tiangge, food strips, and Tinday Labi (night market) will start to operate on December 1. The other activities will formally start on the 14th.
