Health, nutrition workers feed 250 undernourished children in Vigan City

by Freddie G. Lazaro

VIGAN CITY, Jan. 10 (PIA) -- To eliminate the problem on malnutrition in Vigan City, the City Nutrition Council with the assistance of the Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) fed a total of 250 undernourished children at Mira Hill this city last Friday.

The feeding program is one of the priority programs initiated by the city government headed by Mayor Eva Marie Singson – Medina to sustain good health of all children living in the city.

During the feeding session, the children were fed with nutritious home-made mikilungay noodles distributed by the city health workers and BNS.

The beneficiaries of the program were evaluated by the BNS from the city’s 39 barangays.

According to Medina, the feeding program for children is a regular activity of the city nutrition council as one of the effective means to address malnutrition among children.

In addition, the lady mayor reported a total of 1, 083 pre–school children were served last year by the Day Care Services Program of the city government where the children had daily supplemental feeding in the city’s 39 day care centers. Hot meals with vegetables were served to these children during snack time in the morning and afternoon session.

Aside from complementary feeding, Medina said that the city government is also distributing vitamins to children including the pre-schoolers.

“The city government is implementing this nutrition programs to sustain good health among the resident in Vigan because I really believed that having a good health is the secret weapon to overcome any challenges in our daily life,” she concluded. (ANL/FGL-PIA 1 Ilocos Sur)
