PANGASINAN, Jan. 18 –- Crime statistics in the province dropped in 2011 compared to the figures in 2010, according to the Pangasinan Police Office.

P/Chief Insp. Alfredo Dacanay, deputy police community relations officer, said the comparative statistics of index crimes dropped to 368 in 2011 from 504 in 2010 or negative 26.98 percent.

Breakdown of the index crimes are as follows: murder- down to 7 from 18; physical injury- decreased to 175 from 283; rape – down to 8 from 11; robbery- declined to 28 from 51 and carnapping -lowered to 8 from 14 cases.

All index crimes decreased except for homicide which rose to nine (9) from eight (8) in 2010 and theft which registered 122 cases from 114, he said.

Non-index crimes, which includes drug cases and illegal possession of firearms and those under special laws also went down to 368 from the 2010 data of 379 or negative 28.23 percent.

Dacanay said the over-all crime volume dropped to 640 in 2011 from 883 in 2010. Crime solution efficiency is 43.44 percent.

Crime solving is more efficient today. Cops are doing their jobs better, Dacanay said during the Pantontongan Tayo radio program of the Philippine Information Agency aired over Radyo ng Bayan-Dagupan.

The Philippine National Police attributes the achievement to the combined vigilance of the policemen, force multipliers and the communities.

The PNP is bent on reducing crimes in the country as part of the Aquino Administration’s Millenium Development Goals on security and peace. (ANL/VHS-PIA 1 Pangasinan)
