Dagupan cathedral transfer set todayDAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan, Dec.27 (PIA) - Dagupenos celebrate the Feast of St. John the Evangelist, the city’s patron saint.The Most Reverend Edward Joseph Adams, Papal Nuncio to the Philippines, will lead ceremonies at 4 p.m. for the historic transfer of the Lingayen-Dagupan Metropolitan Cathedral from Zamora street to nearby Burgos street, said Archbishop Socrates Villegas.
Villegas said Pope Benedict XVI had approved his petition to name the St John church on Burgos street as the Metropolitan Cathedral. The old church on Zamora street will become Sanctuario de San Juan Evangelista.
The St. John Cathedral has undergone renovation in time for the site transfer. Dignitaries, Catholic Church leaders, and other guests are expected to grace the occasion.
At 8 a.m., three priests are set to undergo ordination.
The city police and the public order and safety office have devised traffic re-routing schemes in streets adjacent to the cathedral.
The city has been busy with activities as it celebrates its fiesta which began on the first week and will last up to the end of the month. (PIA Pangasinan/danny)
