Nueva Vizcaya Rotary Club conducts fun run for environmentby Ben Moses Ebreo
BAMBANG, Nueva Vizcaya, December 1 (PIA) -- The Rotary Club of Vizcaya-South recently conducted a fun run with tree planting in this town, in support of the government’s effort in regreening the country.
Rotarian Joselito Venturina, manager of the Rural Bank of Bambang here, said the activity was done to put trees along the road in this town.
More than 50 people participated in the jog –walk activity which was also supported by the members of the Alpha Phi Omega International Service Fraternity and Sorority.
According to the proponents, the activity coincided with the observance of Andres Bonifacio Day, which was also a tribute to the fallen father of Philippine revolution.
“This is our contribution in reinforcing regreening in our province. It may be simple but it is worth the effort because we also want to create and promote awareness on everyone’s responsibility in shaping the country’s green resources and economy,” Venturina said.
The participants planted close to 500 trees alongside the road, covering 7 kilometers from barangay Top Hill to barangay Barat in this town.
“We hope to draw more participants when we do it again next time. This will be a yearly activity for us,” Venturina said.
He said they will also tap the students and other organizations in this town, as they plan to conduct a similar activity early next year. (bme/PIA 2-Nueva Vizcaya)
