PA and LGU conduct relief operations in flooded areas

Casiguran, Aurora (November 15) – The provincial government of Aurora, through Governor Bellaflor J. Angara-Castillo, Congressman Juan Edgardo Angara, and the Philippine Army distributed relief goods to more than 1,500 flashflood-affected families in Casiguran on November 8, 2010.

The relief operations assisted families who were most affected by the recent floods in the said town. The people have already returned to their homes but they need assistance because their agricultural crops especially rice, were destroyed by waters that reached as high as six feet in the middle of Poblacion, Casiguran.

The governor stressed that the relief operation was delayed due to impassable roads caused by landslides. The DPWH continued the clearing operations so that normal traffic will be restored.

Congressman Juan Edgardo Angara personally handed relief goods to the people of Casiguran and to see their situation. Casiguran is one of the municipalities of Aurora that easily gets flooded during heavy rains.

Col. Felicito Vergilio Trinidad, Brigade Commander of 702nd Brigade, said that the people should always be prepared and help mitigate such natural disasters.

Alhough the Philippine Army and the local government are always ready to respond in times of calamities, it is also very important that the people are trained in order to cope in any eventuality.
