Legislative award motivates city on ‘road to change’

by Jose Mari M. Garcia

CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan, Jan 13 (PIA) –- The victory of this city in the recent Gawad Galing Sanggunian (GGS) has served as a “road to change and better life” for Maloleños with the promise of a more proactive lawmaking body.

Malolos City was awarded the Most Outstanding Sangguniang Panlungsod plus a P100,000 cash prize in the annual GGS held recently at Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center. The Bulacan capital also won the Most Outstanding Ordinance of the Year.

Mayor Christian Natividad said these awards will be an inspiration to the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) in producing laws for the betterment of the home of the first constitutional republic in Asia.

“I will be able to bank on more on them (SP) for a road to change and better life of the people of this city,” said Natividad, who achieved the award Outstanding Councilor in GGS in 2003.

Vice Mayor Gilbert Gatchalian, the presiding officer of SP Malolos, said he and his 10 councilors will strive more to parallel the progress of the former Philippine capital.

According to the City Information Office (CIO), Councilor Jesus Ricardo De Gala III was conferred the Perfect Attendance Award. He is also the author of City Ordinance No. 16-2010 which was hailed the Most Outstanding Ordinance of the Year.

The said law requires establishment owners who lease their properties to obtain a registration list of their renters. This list is added as a requirement for the owners to acquire a business permit. It also mandates the tenants to submit a list of requirements they need in the establishment and the owners to prescribe penalties for violation.

Also, councilors Francisco Centeno Jr., Alberto Ramos, and Crispin Erjas were cited for being elected in three terms consecutively.

Themed last year “Panibagong Yugto ng Galing at Talino, Sama-sama, Kayang-Kaya,” the GGS is an annual awarding of Bulacan government to commend the exemplary performance and achievements of local legislative bodies, including the vice mayors, councilors and secretaries.(WLB/JMG-PIA3)
