CSC enjoins gov’t agencies to participate in the Mindanao Week of Peace

by Michael Vincent D. Cajulao

In the quest for a lasting peace and development in Mindanao, the Civil Service Commission IX issued Regional Memorandum Circular no. 8, enjoining all government agencies, including government owned and controlled corporations, and various state colleges and universities in the whole of region 9 to participate and support the observance of the Mindanao Week of Peace from November 25 to December 1, 2010.

With this year’s theme “Responsive and Responsible Governance: Key to Peace. Development and Sustainability”, CSC IX Regional Director Macybel Alfaro-Sahi said it coincides with the theme of Civil Service Anniversary Celebration “In a R.A.C.E to Serve: Advancing Responsive, Accessible, Courteous and Effective Public Service”, thus, she is urging government all officials and employees to actively support and participate in the said activity.

The week-long activity will kick off with a parade in the morning of November 25, with activities promoting and advocating the culture of peace in Mindanao to be conducted by various sectors throughout the week. The celebration will close with a torch parade on December 1, at 4:00 pm, after which is the closing program, to be followed by a concert for peace to be held at Paseo del Mar.

The week-long celebration will be spearheaded by the Peace Advocate Zamboanga Foundation, Inc. (PAZ) and the Social Literacy Agenda for Muslims (SALAM) Foundation.

The Mindanao Week of Peace was conceptualized and initiated by PAZ-SALAM here in the city, and was later adopted by the Bishops-Ulama Conference into a Mindanao-wide annual event.

Dir. Sahi is challenging the government sector to make a difference by heeding the call for peace beyond the bounds of cultural differences and diversities. (PIA9-ZC)
