Batangas PPO issues 3,804 stickers under ‘Oplan Checkmate’

by Carlo P. Gonzaga

BATANGAS CITY, Jan. 2 (PIA) -- The Police Provincial Office (PPO) in the province of Batangas has reported the issuance of 3,804 stickers for the implementation of its ‘Oplan Checkmate’ which aims to provide additional security to civilian-owners of motorcycles.

Under the project, launched in November last year, every motorcycle flagged down is scrutinized to ensure that it was not stolen. After checking the authenticity of the necessary documents presented by the owner, a checkmate sticker is attached to the motorcycle.

Out of the total number of stickers issued: 871 were distributed in the first district of Batangas; 1,064 in the second district; 1,028 in the third district and 841 in the fourth district.

Meanwhile, 270 motorcycles without necessary documents or authenticity of ownership were impounded. Lipa City leads with 30 motorcycles impounded, followed by Ibaan with 27 and Tanauan City with 26.

“The implementation of the program was a big help to the entire PPO because most of the operations we conducted involves criminals riding in motorcycles,” Batangas Provincial Director Atty. Rosauro Acio said.

He added that through ‘Oplan Checkmate,’ “we can be sure of the ownership of all the motorcycles in the province,” and called on the public to cooperate in their endeavor in safeguarding security and order in the province. (CPG, PIA4A with report from PIA-Batangas)
