Antipolo city gov't welcomes standard lessons for day care program

ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal, Jan. 6 (PIA) -- The implementation of a more effective and consistent system of training for day care workers and upgrading of early childhood care by the Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) council earned praises from the local chief executive in this city.

“It’s about time we change the nature of our day care program. That is why I insisted that day care centers should have a standardized program of teaching. Dapat hindi kanya-kanya ang turo. Dapat may sinusunod na programa so that all day care centers have the same method of teaching,” said Mayor Nilo Leyble.

Dr. Teresita Inciong, council chairperson, said early childhood care and development is important. “Early learning helps develop the brain and helps make children ready for formal schooling. Children who underwent early learning show good school performance and less likely to drop out. A child’s early experience greatly affects the child’s future. These are some of the important points to consider.”

Framed by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the ECCD field is interdisciplinary as its focus includes health, nutrition, education, social science, economics, child protection and social welfare.

In Antipolo City, considerable transformation in childhood development is currently taking place after the seminar-workshop hosted by the ECCD council.

“We received a very warm welcome from the people of Antipolo especially from City Mayor Nilo Leyble. We are happy that we have very receptive participants. They were very enthusiastic in getting the latest information on child care. It’s a very energetic group and for that we are very grateful,” said Rowena Dasig, ECCD planning officer.

ECCD council is a national government agency responsible in ensuring quality ECCD services reach all Filipino children between the ages of 0-6, regardless if rich or poor, in the city or in the rural areas, gender, religion or ethnicity. (PIO-Antipolo/CPG, PIA-4A)
