by Carlo P. Gonzaga

BATANGAS CITY, January 7 (PIA) -- With the approval of the 2012 provincial annual budget of the province of Batangas amounting to P2.2 billion, the implementation this year of the different programs and projects planned under the HEARTS program of the provincial government is expected to speed up.

These programs include health, education, agriculture, infrastructure, tourism, security and environmental protection.

Through a special session held December 19, the members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Batangas Province approved in unison the P2.2 billion provincial annual budget for this year.

The more than P2 billion 2012 Provincial General Appropriation Act was presented by the provincial board to Gov. Vilma Santos-Recto with officials and employees of the provincial government witnessing the occasion.

The governor in accepting the approved annual budget thanked the provincial board led by Vice Governor Mark Leviste and the provincial employees for the continuous support to her administration. Because of the ceaseless good relationship between the legislative and executive branches in the province, development projects are implemented more effectively and immediately.

She mentioned to Batanguenos to be thankful to the blessings they received and not to forget to pray for countrymen affected by typhoon Sendong in Northern Mindanao particularly the cities of Cagayan De Oro and Iligan. The provincial government, the governor added, will exert efforts in helping the calamity-affected areas in accordance with the national relief efforts for Mindanao

Meanwhile, the provincial board commended Gov. Santos-Recto for the award received recently from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) as one of the most transparent in running the government and good leadership which paved the way for stamping the province with the Seal of Good Housekeeping.
