Quezon agriculture office holds upland rice management trainingLUCENA CITY, Quezon, Jan. 30 (PIA) -- To promote and develop the technology on upland rice farming, the provincial government through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) conducted “upland rice production management training” January 26-27 at Ouan’s Worth Farm, this city.
OPA Information Officer Cristina Lucila said the traning was participated by agriculture extension workers, farmer leader and municipal agriculturist from different towns of Quezon province.
Topics discussed during the training include: upland rice system (Arakan experience); the upland varieties; nutrient management in upland; upland pest and disease management; seed health,; weeds and rodents management; technology transfer system in the upland ecosystem and conservational of traditional varieties (in-situ & ex situ).
On the other hand, resource speakers were agricultural technologists Evener Arguilles and Emelito Buncayo of the OPA- Quezon; Science research specialists Michelle Castillo and Ammable Capricho of PhilRice; Rolando Maningas of Agriculture Training Institute and Alexandra Jamoralin of the Department of Agriculture –Regional Field Unit-4A.
Engr. Joselito M. Bunyi, OPA- Quezon supervising agriculturist; Apolonio R. Bobadilla, agriculturist II and provincial agriculturist Roberto Gajo also attended the training.
The training, according to Lucila was in line with the “Serbisyong Suarez sa Agrikultura,” program of Quezon Gov. David Suarez and the Office of the provincial agriculture headed by provincial agriculturist Roberto Gajo. (RMO/PIA- Quezon)
