by Lito Dar

BAGUIO CITY, Jan. 1 (PIA) - - Around 700,000 poor households nationwide are set to be included in the government’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) this 2012.

This was disclosed by Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Corazon ‘Dinky’ Soliman in a radio interview during her visit here in the city on Friday.

According to Soliman, with the additional 700,000 beneficiaries this year, the government’s 4Ps or Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) program will now reach out to three million poor households in the country.

The 4Ps is a poverty reduction and social development strategy of the national government that provides conditional cash grants to extremely poor households to improve the family member’s health, nutrition and education particularly of children aged 0-14.

In the Cordillera, DSWD-CAR Regional Director Leonardo Reynoso disclosed that with the 4Ps expansion for this year, 30,330 more poor household will benefit from the said program or a total of 58,653 program beneficiaries for 2012 covering all the municipalities and cities of Cordillera.

Meantime, Soliman also assured a more intensified convergence program of DSWD’s three core social protection programs, which aside from the 4P, include the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS) and the Self-Employment Assistance – Kaunlaran (SEA-K).

For this year, the KALAHI-CIDDS, a community driven development strategy or program, is set for expansion to 129 new CCT areas to cover 348 municipalities including old areas in 48 provinces. In the region, the said program is up for expansion in the province of Apayao.

Soliman also stressed that they will also intensify the provision of sustainable livelihood programs for CCT areas through community driven enterprise development and guaranteed employment wherein government programs and projects will prioritize the hiring of manpower or laborer from CCT family beneficiaries.

Soliman called on everybody’s cooperation and support so that together through the ‘tuwid na daan’ the present government is pushing, all the Filipino families, with no one to be left behind, can achieve the development wanted for the for the country. (JDP/LD-PIA CAR)
