35 small food manufacturers undergo enhancement seminar

by Larry Lopez

TABUK, Kalinga, Jan. 5 (PIA) -- Aimed to boost income and production, 35 small food manufacturers here are given leadership and shop floor management program seminar by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

Dixi Catacutan of DOST provincial office said the activity is part of DOST’s continued assistance to micro food processors in the province who have shown positive indications for growth and development.

An expert from the Covenant Consultants International, Inc. is tapped by DOST to handle the training that advocates quality checkpoints, food safety and good manufacturing practices.

Catacutan explained the training is a follow-up of earlier manufacturing productivity extension (MPEX) program given to the sector to achieve maximum output from operation.

DOST provincial office has launched a program to develop the growing food industry, here, helping them acquire export product standard that would increase production and open new market.

From earlier visits conducted by the DOST on various micro-business sites, it was found out that operators still should improve in the areas of plant layout and design, quality control, assurance control, material management system, financial control system, safety and housekeeping.

Through DOST’s program, micro industries in the province gain business stability with enhanced technical skills, advanced packaging techniques and product labeling.(JDP/LL-PIA CAR,Kalinga)
