Kalinga blood council to conduct community blood letting activities

by Peter A. Balocnit

TABUK CITY, Kalinga, Jan. 11(PIA)-- The Provincial Blood Council (PBC) will conduct zonal blood letting activities the whole year round in order to establish adequate blood supply in the province.

Norma Bunaton, head of the PBC secretariat said the blood letting activity is scheduled every second week of the month. There will be 12 blood letting activities to be conducted this year in the three inter-health zones, she said.

The Pumiyaan health zone covering the municipalities of Pinukpuk and Balbalan will conduct its blood letting activity this January, in April, July and October; Binulawan covering Tinglayan, Lubuagan and Pasil on February, May, August and November; and Lin-awa zone covering Rizal, Tanudan and Tabuk City in March, June, September and December.

The council agreed during their recent meeting that local government units will provide transport and needs of blood donors and the Kalinga Provincial Hospital (KPH) blood bank is in-charge of the blood letting team’s mobilization and supplies.

Before the blood letting, Bunaton said there will be a short advocacy lecture simultaneous with the assessment of eligible blood donors. Potential donors aged 16-17 need parental consent, she advised.

She said high school students will also be invited to be part of the audience during the information, education and communication (IEC) since they are the future blood donors. “We have to advocate among the youth the spirit of volunteerism and their duty to save lives,” Bunaton said.

“PBC will also conduct blood donation advocacy in offices and during flag ceremonies,” she said. (JDP/PAB-PIA CAR,Kalinga)
