Asipulo celebrates 20th year, looks forward to improvements

ASIPULO, Ifugao, Jan. 13 (PIA) -- As this fifth class town celebrates today its 20th founding anniversary, the chief executive here is optimistic that it will soon be converted into a fourth class municipality with the improvement of the economic situation of the people.

Mayor Eladio Bang ud said that with the different programs and projects implemented by the government such as farm to market roads, irrigation water system and the like, the lives of the people here will be improved.

He enumerated various projects funded by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) being implemented in this town such as the concreting of the 5.5 kilometers Haliap-Panubtuban road amounting to P21million; irrigation projects amounting to P4.6M that will benefit farmers; water system in Nalne costing P8M and the construction of the Haliap Cooperative Building with in the amount of P3M.

Bang ud disclosed that as per agreement with the DAR, the local government units here should have counterpart for these projects. Thus, P3M was downloaded by Congressman Teddy Baguilat Jr.; P2M came from the provincial government LGU and another P2M from the municipal government.

According to the mayor, the said funds will be used to continue the concreting of the road from Barangay Haliap to the municipal grounds.

Folks in this town are mostly farmers, and Bang ud believes that with the improvement of the farm to market roads, irrigation projects, the farm products of the town folks will be brought easily to the nearest market and will surely improve their economic situation.

Asipulo was separated from its mother town, Kiangan, through Republic Act 7173 signed by then President Corazon Aquino on January 13, 1992. (JDP/VDB- PIA CAR, Ifugao)
