by Dan B. Codamon

KIANGAN, Ifugao, Jan. 17(PIA) -- Municipal workers under the Pantawid Pampamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) recently underwent a five-day training on the enhanced Family Development Session Manual to equip them with the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes to effectively and properly help in the implementation of the program.

Five representatives each from the 11 towns involved in the 4Ps and considered as municipal link for the program participated in the training held on January 9-13 at the Highland Hotel and Resort at Solano, Nueva Vizcaya.

Rogeline Binsay, one of the participants, said that during the training, they were given an in-depth and detailed orientation about the 4Ps, the faces of poverty in the families of the community, their roles as members of a family, their duties as workers of the 4Ps, taking care of the rights of children and upholding gender equality and equity.

They were also taught to understand better the indigenous people’s culture and to respect their rights and practices about the issues on family, health and education and to help these families maintain good relationships between the parents and their children so that the program can be successfully implemented.

Resource persons from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) also trained them on how to strengthen the families by teaching them how to prevent abuses within the household, how to avoid vices, proper management of money, time and the importance of having financial savings including the engagement in bio-intensive backyard gardening, environmental protection and disaster management.

Binsay said that beginning February and the succeeding months, they will be deployed to the different barangays who are beneficiaries of the 4Ps to conduct a series of family development sessions to the households.

She added that hopefully by March, the Conditional Cash Transfer funds will already be given to the beneficiaries so it can help strengthen and improve their social and economic conditions which is the ultimate goal of the program and the government.(JDP/DBC-PIA CAR,Ifugao)
