DOLE Kalinga opens 478 slots for 2012 SPES

by Larry Lopez

TABUK, Kalinga,Jan. 17(PIA) -- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) provincial office assured the hiring of 478 students who want to work under the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) this year in the province.

Lourdes Canseco of DOLE-Kalinga said the 478 slots will be distributed to hiring agencies coming from local government units (LGUs), government agencies and private establishments.

She said DOLE is now accepting pledges of commitment from hiring agencies as partners in the implementation of the SPES.

Under the SPES, payment to salaries of students is shared by the hiring agency and DOLE at 60%-40% scheme, respectively. Students who work under the program receive a salary not lower than the minimum wage prescribed by the department.

Students qualified to work under SPES are those aging from 15-25 or at least in third year high school or already in college.

As support to their education, DOLE is giving temporary employment of 20-52 days, which is not limited only during summer but year round.

The work is now offered even within the semester also to students who have already enrolled in college, provided they have half-day sessions.

Canseco said there is no exact date yet announced as to when the work for this batch of SPES workers would start but she urged interested applicants to prepare their necessary documents to facilitate application. (JDP/LL-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
