Health team bares winners for most compliant in Anti-Rabies Act

BONTOC, Mt. Province, Jan. 19 (PIA) -- Three barangays in the towns of Barlig and Bauko were declared winners in the provincial search for the most compliant barangays to the Anti-Rabies Act of 2007.

Provincial Health Team leader Claudio Pancho reported during the Provincial Health Board meeting that barangays Poblacion, Bauko and Lias Silangan of Barlig received a cash prize of P12,000 while barangay Gawan, also of Barlig, received a cash prize of P6,000.

Criteria in judging the most compliant barangay in the Anti-Rabies Act of 2007 include the absence of human and canine rabies; presence of barangay ordinance based on Republic Act 9482 or the Anti-Rabies Act of 2007; presence of rabies prevention and control activities, and dog registration and dog vaccination.

The search is part of efforts to make the province rabies-free. Rabies is a fatal that is transmitted through the bite of an infected animal. It is characterized by muscle paralysis, hydrophobia and aerophobia and other neurological disorders.

Pancho said these three barangays are the province’s entries to the regional search for the most compliant barangay to the Anti-Rabies act of 2007, which seeks to control and eliminate human and animal rabies.

Meanwhile, Pancho also reported that barangay Poblacion, Tadian is a regional winner in the search for best sanitation practice which received a cash award of P150,000.00. Criteria in the search for best sanitation practice includes 85 percent households with sanitary toilet and with 100 percent access to safe water.

Pancho said barangay Santa Isabel of Natonin is also an achiever but lacks some requirements like ordinances and barangay counterpartin. (JDP/JBS-PIA CAR-Mt.Province)
