2,197 families in 3 Ifugao towns are CCT beneficiaries

LAGAWE, Ifugao, Jan 19 (PIA) --Three municipalities of this province are already enjoying the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) under the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), which is the poverty-reduction strategy of the government implemented through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

According to Minda Romero, Social Welfare and Development team leader of the 4Ps in Ifugao, there are now 2,197 beneficiaries in the municipalities of Asipulo, Hungduan and Tinoc who have been benefitting from the CCT since 2010.

She said that there are 999 beneficiaries in Asipulo, 344 in Hungduan and 854 in Tinoc who received and continue to receive the CCT which is the Philippine’s five-year conditional cash transfer program providing each beneficiary-family cash grants for nutrition, health and education.By providing such cash assistance, the 4Ps aims to stop poverty that has spawned generations of Filipinos.

Under the program, Asipulo received P9,427,700.00 in 2010 and P6,204,600.00 in 2011 for a total amount of P15,632,300.00 while Hungduan got P5,333,100.00 in 2010 and P4,742,700.00 in 2011 for a total of P10,075,800.00. Tinoc also received the amount of P4,094,600.00 in 2010 and P1,461,900.00 in 2011 for a total of P5,556,500.00.

Romero said that additional family beneficiaries in the other municipalities of Ifugao are on the final process of validation so that hopefully by the month of March they can also start receiving their CCT.

She said there are documented good practices they observed in the area that contributed greatly to the implementation of the project such as in Asipulo where the local government unit facilitated the construction of five additional day care centers as their contribution to the education conditional.

In Tinoc, parent leaders added compliance to municipal ordinances as a topic during the family development sessions and the concept of buddy system was also implemented for one beneficiary to help one another in the attainment of the conditionalities.(JDP/DBC-PIA-Ifugao)
