Baguio City hosts 16-under boys and girls National Basketball championship

BAGUIO CITY, Jan. 20 (PIA) - - The city is set to host the country’s best youth basketball teams who will be competing for the 16-under boys and girls National Basketball Championship from January 22 to 28 here.

This was announced by former mayor Peter Rey Bautista, the event chairman, in a kapihan forum hosted by the Department of Tourism (DOT-CAR), Wednesday.

According to Bautista, the said activity which is a project of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) is something that the city looks forward to as 16 of the best boys and girls basketball teams in the country will be competing here.10 boys and five women squads, representing five districts in the country- National Capital Region (NCR), Northern and Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao- will be competing in the said event.

For the 16 under boys, the teams that will be competing are: from Mindanao- the Holy Child of Davao and Clarette School of Zamboanga; For Visayas, Sacred Heart of Jesus Montessori and St. John Institute, both from Bacolod; from NCR , St Claire College and the University of Santo Tomas; for the Southern Tagalong region, St. Bridgette College of Batangas. For the host district, it will be represented by the La Union College of Nursing and Arts and Sciences and the University of Baguio.

For the 16 under girls division, five schools from around the country will be competing, namely, Assumption College of Davao, JVP Senior Memorial National High School in Dagupan; St. Claire College in Caloocan; Universidad Santa Isabel of Naga, and St. Louis University Laboratory High School of Baguio.

The game venues are a the University of Baguio where the opening and closing program will be held, the Cordillera Career Development College (CCDC) and Easter College.

Relative to this,Bautista announced that the City Council of Baguio has declared January 21 to 29 as the official 16-under boys and girls National Basketball Championship week here in the city.

All the competing teams including their school officials will all be booked at Teachers Camp. (JDP/LD-PIA CAR)
