Bishop tells Abrenios to care of the environment

by Maritess B. Beñas

BANGUED, Abra, Jan. 24 (PIA) -- “Let this flooding/calamity in southern Philippines a lesson; let us plant more trees and avoid burning our forests and prevent cutting of trees," said Bishop Leopoldo C. Jaucian of the Diocese of Bangued.

He also thanked Abrenios for their response to aid victims of tropical storm Sendon through donations.

In his message to the people of Abra before bringing the solicited amount to the respective dioceses of the typhoon victims, he urged the Abrenios to take care of the environment in order to prevent floods.

Jaucian went on air on radio DZPA on December 23, 2011 to call on the people to donate cash for the typhoon victims of Cagayan de Oro City who were affected by the flash flood. People readily responded to the solicitation that lasted until January 18, 2012 amounting to P197,000. The Diocese of Bangued gave additional amount to make the total amount of P230,000 donation from Abra.

The amount was divided to the three areas hit by typhoon Sendong as follows: P50,000 to Dumaguete City; P80,000 to Iligan City and P100,000 to Cagayan de Oro City.

The donations to the cities of Iligan and Cagayan de Oro were personally handed by the bishop who went to visit the victims last week.

Bishop Elenito Galido of Dumaguete City had already aired his message of thanks to the people of Abra for their support as the Diocese of Bangued had earlier sent the amount to their account. (JDP/MTBB-PIA CAR,Abra)
