Ifugao town starts tertiary education assistance program

ALFONSO LISTA, Ifugao, Jan. 25 (PIA) -- The Local Government Unit (LGU) here has started implementing the tertiary education assistance program (TEAP) to benefit indigent students in the municipality.

The TEAP aims to it provide financial assistance to poor but deserving secondary graduates who are interested to pursue their college education and patronize government institutions.

Each of the 20 barangays is entitled to three slots for every school year. The financial assistance is in the amount of P3,000 per semester primarily to pay the tuition and other miscellaneous fees of the qualified applicant. The amount shall be directly paid to the tertiary or technical vocational school where the qualified applicant is enrolled.

Should the total of tuition and other miscellaneous fees exceed the amount, the grantee will pay the balance. However, if the total tuition and other miscellaneous fees is less, the excess shall be refunded to the grantee as allowance. The municipal government will regularly appropriate funds in the Annual Budget sufficient to sustain the program

For the requirements, the applicant should be a permanent resident and registered in the municipality; has total annual gross family income not exceeding P75,000 and must have graduated from a recognized secondary school in the province.

An applicant must also have a general average grade of at least 85 percent; willing to enroll in tertiary courses offered and available in public schools within the province. Moreover, he or any member of his immediate family is not a recipient of any scholarship program from the national and provincial government.

A grantee may be disqualified for failure to submit documentary requirements, transfers to other schools outside the province without prior notice or consent of the municipal government; grave misconduct resulting to expulsion or suspension, marriage; and failing grade of any of the subjects enrolled.
