Lagawe LGU requires household compost pits

by Mhars B. Lihgawon

LAGAWE, Ifugao Jan. 25 (PIA) - - The municipal government here has ordered every household in town to provide a space for compostable garbage in support to the clean and green efforts and to help mitigate climate change.

In his executive order, Mayor Ceasario Cabbigat mandated each household to dig compost pit for degradable wastes to reduce the volume of garbage being collected in every household particularly the four urban barangays of the municipality.

“This is also in support to the implementation of the Ecological Solid Waste Ordinances of Barangays Poblacion West, East, North and South including Barangays Cudog, Burnay, Boliwong and Tungngod in providing direction, control and supervision of wastes generated in the municipality,” he said.

Cabbigat also announced that the garbage truck of the municipal government will only collect residual waste for disposal at the municipal dumpsite. To ensure a 100% compliance, he inforned that a barangay clearance is a compulsory requirement before the payment of garbage fees and issuance of business permits.

The mayor also called on all barangay officials to revisit, enforce and strengthen their respective ecological solid waste management ordinance to make the municipality clean and orderly with its people environmentally conscious and aware of their social responsibilities.(JDP/MBL– PIA CAR,Ifugao)
