30 micro-firm owners take management & shop floor seminarby Larry Lopez
TABUK, Kalinga, Jan. 29 (PIA) -- Designed to enhance capability in business, 30 micro-firm owners took leadership and shop floor management seminars given by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
The project is under DOSTís six -month capability enhancement program given to micro-food manufacturers in the province engaged in the processing of coffee, meat, cacao, veggie-noodles, fruit wine and bakery business.
According to Dixi Catacutan of DOST provincial office, the activity is part of DOSTís continued assistance to micro-food processors in Kalinga aimed to boost production and income.
The course started last October and targeted to be completed in March, prepares proponents to avail of DOSTís assistance program intended to small food manufacturers.
Within the six-month period, in-house training by proponents is being conducted on their respective workforce as part of the preparation requirement.
Basic skills on book keeping, product development and packaging are also given during in-house trainings.
DOST provincial office has launched a program to develop the growing food industry here, helping them develop improved product standard and open new market.
From earlier visits conducted by the DOST on various micro-business sites, it was found out that operators still need to improve in the areas of plant layout and design, quality control, assurance control, material management system, financial control system, safety and housekeeping.
Throughout the program, micro-industries in the province are expected to acquire enhanced technical skills, advanced packaging techniques and product labeling.(LL/PIA-CAR)
