Kalinga nutrition congress moves to reduce malnutrition

    TABUK, Kalinga,Jan. 30(PIA) -- Participants to the First Kalinga Nutrition Congress held last week resolved to bring down the province’s malnutrition rate, the second highest in the region.
    Based on the 7th national nutrition survey conducted recently by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI), Kalinga posted a malnutrition rate of 29.7%, next to Abra with 40.1%. (+)

Competitive exams for fisheries scholarship program on March 17

    LAGAWE, Ifugao, Jan. 29 (PIA)--The Department of Agriculture through the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, in cooperation with the Department of Education, will conduct the competitive examination for the Fisheries Scholarship Program on March 17, 2012.
    The exam is open to high school graduates/graduating students who are Filipino citizens, not more than 20 years old and certified by their school heads as among the top ten of the graduating class in which they belong and not have earned any units in college. (+)

LGU issues guidelines on use of municipal filling station
    ALFONSO LISTA, Ifugao, Jan. 31 (PIA) -- The Local Government Unit (LGU) here has issued guidelines on the proper utilization and maintenance of its established filling gas station.
    These guidelines aimed to regulate the proper disbursement of fuel from the said filling station for the benefit of all concerned offices and the municipal government as a whole. (+)

NCIP joins 4Ps planning workshop in Baguio city

    BAGUIO CITY, Jan. 30 (PIA)-- The Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) program also known as Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program(4Ps) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) ensures that the rights and welfare of Indigenous Peoples (IPs) are protected and upheld in its implementation particularly among cultural communities such as the Cordillera region.
    The National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP) recently joined the orientation and planning workshop on the Indigenous People’s Agenda under the DSWD-led Pantawid Pamilya. (+)

Kalinga holds 1st Health Forum

    TABUK CITY, Kalinga ,Jan. 30(PIA) -- The provincial government here recently held the first Health Forum in the provinbce to create a venue for health officials and local chief executives to meet, discuss and polish the province’s health program towards the achievement of its commitment to the Millennium Development Goals (MDG).
    In his message delivered by Provincial Legal Officer Atty. Kristian Wandag, Governor Jocel Baac underscored the need for the health officials to give focus to MGD’s major goals where they are the lead sector such as the reduction of child mortality, improve maternal health, end the cases of major diseases like malaria, and reducing hunger especially among the poor in the province to achieve 2015 MGD goals. Kaelco proposes 24-hout power service

    TABUK CITY, Kalinga, Jan. 29 (PIA) -- To make power supply in the town of Lubuagan round-the-clock, the Kalinga-Apayao Electric Cooperative (KAELCO) proposes the ugrading of the Cagaluan in Pasil to Lubuagan main grid lines.
    Kaelco General Manager Corazon Tomas urged for the convergence of different local government units (LGUs), agencies particularly from the energy sector in order to opt for a 24-hour power supply. She said the upgrading needs P12.5 million which Kaelco could not afford to provide. (+)
