PNP raises cop recruitment standard

by Precie Catherine C. Cuarto

QUEZON CITY, Jan. 25 (PIA) -- The Philippine National Police has revised its recruitment standards to ensure that the new police recruits will be committed to serving the public.

In Tuesday's episode of the radio program Talking Points, PNP PC/Supt. Agrimero Cruz said the new PNP recruitment standards put premium on the commitment and the neuro-psychiatric health of the applicants.

The revision of the standards seeks to address the alleged crime involvement of some newly-recruited police officers.

Agility could be learned in the year-long course of physical training but commitment is what PNP needs to uphold national peace and order, Cruz said

He said the commitment of PNP applicants could be assessed through their submitted records (i.e. NBI clearance, barangay clearance). However, the PNP still conducts further background check to validate the records of the applicants.

The PNP also screens the applicants’ medical and neuro-psychiatric health.

Applicants who would pass the NAPOLCOM (National Police Commission) test, and other tests like the bar and board exams, with flying colors shall also be given a premium, Cruz added.

“We need this [revised recruitment criteria] for the PNP to meet the international standards, and be an effective and efficient national police force,” Cruz said.

Talking Points is aired over Radyo ng Bayan and sponsored by the Presidential Communications Operations Office, Philippine Information Agency and Philippine Broadcasting Service. (PCCC/PIA-GHQ)
