Single ticketing system scheme approved – MMDA

QUEZON CITY, Jan. 28 (PIA) – Traffic enforcers will soon issue uniform traffic tickets and charge standard rates for traffic violations in Metro Manila. The Metro Manila Council (MMC)--the governing body of the Metro Manila Development Authority--approved last Thursday the implementation of a uniform or single ticketing system.

This was announced yesterday by Atty. Alu Dorotan, spokesperson of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) during the Communication and News Exchange Forum (CNEX).

With the implementation of this single/uniform ticketing system scheme, traffic violators will be issued a uniform traffic ticket within the metro.

At present, there are 17 kinds of traffic tickets issued by local governments within its jurisdiction in Metro Manila. Fines and penalties also differ from one city to another. On top of this, both the MMDA and the Land Transportation Office also issue a different traffic ticket to motorists.

Doroton said that under this new scheme a traffic ticket issued to a motorist, whose license was confiscated in a Metro Manila town, will be honored in other cities within the metro. She said, however, a motorist will be issued another ticket if he commits a different violation in another city.

DILG Sec. Jesse Robredo was present during the meeting of the MMC, which comprises 17 local government executives. Robredo explained to the local executives the need to implement this scheme. Present during the meeting were representatives of various transport groups.

The MMC agreed on the resolution that each of its members as well as the various transport groups will submit its list of concerns regarding the implementation of this scheme.

The scheme may be implemented in a month's time at the earliest, once the draft guidelines has been submitted to, reviewed and approved by President Aguino. The said guidelines will contain standardized fines and penalties, redemption of driver’s license, and manner of apprehension.

The Communication and News Exchange Forum (CNEX) is aired over PTV-4 and Radyo ng Bayan nationwide, and sponsored by the Presidential Communications Operations Office and PIA. (PAE/PIA-GHQ)
