Low pressure area spotted

by Domingo B. Natividad V

QUEZON CITY, Jan 2 (PIA) -- The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has spotted a weather disturbance that may affect the Philippines in the next few days.

According to the Weather Bureau, the low pressure area (LPA) was last spotted at 2:00 a.m. today via satellite and surface data at 1,000 kilometers of Southern Mindanao.

PAGASA administrator said they are closely monitoring the movement of the LPA as this will bring rains particularly in the Visayas and Mindanao regions.

Because of this, the Visayas and Mindanao areas will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. The Eastern and Southern Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with widespread rains which may trigger flash flood and landslides.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon is still affecting the weather in Northern Luzon. Eastern Luzon will also experience cloudy skies with rains. The rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light rains.(RJB/DBNV-PIA NCR)
