QC extends business tax payment period

QUEZON CITY, Jan. 20 (PIA) -- The Quezon City (QC) government has extended the period for payment of business taxes, charges and fees in QC up to January 31.

Through an ordinance approved by the city council on second reading under suspended rules on January 16, the city’s taxpayers were given eleven more days to settle their tax obligations to the city government without paying the corresponding surcharges and penalties.

The deadline for tax payments without penalty is January 20.

Mayor Herbert Bautista urged city taxpayers to take advantage of the extension, which he said, was given by the city government to accommodate the large number of taxpayers who will be paying their business taxes, which serve as major income source for the city.

The period for payment of the city’s business taxes was extended by virtue of a council ordinance filed by Councilor Godofredo Liban II.

Meanwhile, the Mayor also called on taxpayers to take advantage of the extended working hours being rendered by the city government to accommodate those who are settling their tax obligations with the city.

Bautista said that offices involved in tax assessments and payments will be open even on Saturdays and Sundays for the whole month of January from 8:00 in the morning up to 5:00 p.m. in the afternoon.

The grant of additional office days and hours has been instituted by the city government to enable taxpayers to settle their tax obligations on time and avoid paying penalties for late payments.

As of January 18, the city has already collected P472,113,544.38 in business taxes, which is P140,537,967.75 more or 42.38% higher than what was collected by the city during the same period last year.

However, business taxes grew by 17.96% last year with the QC government posting a collection of P4, 556,840,993.95.

According to the business permits and licensing office, there are about 54,000 registered business establishments in Quezon City. (RJB/AKG-PIA-NCR/QC-PIO)
