AFP’s “Bayanihan” wins the heart of international community

by Jell E. Guzman

QUEZON CITY, January 21 (PIA) -– Aimed at winning peace, the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Internal Peace and Security Plan (IPSP) ‘Bayanihan’ has also won the hearts of the international community.

This was marked during the World Work 2011, an international consortium held in the United States of America last April 2011, where over 250 participants from 30 countries gathered together and discussed strategies and interventions that would address the complexity of various social issues.

The seminar also provided unique opportunity for people from all over the world to come together in a powerful forum focused on working with social, environmental, and political issues through group process skills.

World Work Coordinator Aleksander Peikrishvii in a letter lauded the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ paradigm shift towards winning the peace.

During the said event, AFP representative Major Jo-Ar Herrera had the opportunity to explain the “Legal Pluralism and the dynamics of winning the peace in Mindanao.”

Herrera also promoted the AFP’s “Bayanihan” strategy, where stronger platforms in the areas of human rights, community-based focus and people-centered approach were established in his lecture.

Peikrishvii, on the other hand, noted Herrera’s talk regarding the Armed Forces concern for human rights and on how a values-based leadership becomes a priority in the institution.

The event coordinator also highlighted the strategic transformation of the AFP using a service-oriented approach that engages and empowers the Filipino people through various community-based endeavors.

The AFP representative was delighted with the positive reactions from the other participants.

“The participants were also heartened to see view of legal pluralism as a social science discipline, presenting a platform from which an inclusiveness of local people and their rights could be realized via an integration of collaborative law,” said Herrera.

Meanwhile, non-government organizations present during the event also vowed to support AFP’s undertakings in conflict resolution towards winning the peace.

WorldWork 2011 was facilitated by Research Society for Process-Oriented Psychology (RSPOP), a non-profit organization that supports the visions of the Global Process Institute. It is also a hub for conflict resolution facilitators, peace builders, and other NGOs for exchanging ideas and participating in dialogues to promote peace and resolve conflict worldwide.

The follow-up International Association of Process-Oriented Psychology will happen in Zurich, Switzerland in April this year. (WorldWork/AFP/RJB/JEG-PIA-NCR)
