National Archives, kailangan ng bagong gusali

QUEZON CITY, Enero 28 (PIA) -- Nangangailanan ang National Archives of the Philippines (NAP) ng malaking gusaling mapagtataguan ng mahahalagang dokumento nito, ayon sa isang mataas na opisyal ng ahensya kamakailan.

Ayon kay NAP executive director Victorino Mapa Manalo na kasalukuyang naghahanap ang kanilang ahensya ng pasilidad na makatutugon sa pangangailangan nila para mapag-imbakan ng mga pinakaiingatag datos at mga papeles.

Sa tantsa ni Manalo, umaabot na sa 50 milyon ang bilang ng mga dokumento na nasa kanilang pangangalaga, kung saan ang pinakamatanda rito ay nalikha noon pang ika-16 na siglo sa panahon na ang Pilipinas ay nasa ilalim ng pamamahala ng mga Kastila.

"Kami ang nag-iingat ng dokumento," aniya, kasabay ng sabi na sa kasalukuyan ay mayroong tatlong tanggapan ang NAP sa Maynila sa Luzon, Cebu sa Visayas at Davao sa Mindanao na pinaglalagyan din ng mga papeles.

"Kulang ang space namin," ani Manalo, na ipinaliwanag na tiyak na madaragdagan ang kanilang mga itatabing dokumento dahil sa patuloy nilang pag-a-archive sa mga importanteng papeles ng gobyerno alinsunod sa hangarin ng administrasyon ng Pangulong Benigno S. Aquino III na pangalagaan at ibida ang kasaysayan, kultura at pagkakilanlan ng bansa.

Bagama't hindi dinitalye ni Manalo ang tungkol sa naturang pasilidad, aniya, prayoridad ng NAP ang paghahanap ng gusali na mapag-iimbakan ng lahat ng kanilang koleksyon para sa kapakinabangan ng mga tanggapan ng gobyerno at ng publiko na nagsasaliksik.(RJB/JCP-PIA NCR)
